Arlen Meyers, MD, MBA , President and CEO of SoPE, is Professor of Otolaryngology, Dentistry and Engineering at the University of Colorado Denver . He is the cofounder of four companies and is a consultant to several life science, IT and investment firms. Dr. Meyers is a former Harvard-Macy Fellow, a National Library of Medicine Fellow, a Fulbright Scholar and was names as one of the 50 most influential healthcare executives of 2011 by Modern Healthcare Magazine.
Jeffrey Hausfeld, M.D., M.B.A., has served on the national board and committees of specialty medical societies since beginning his practice in Otolaryngology/Facial Plastic Surgery 24 years ago. He is an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at George Washington University School of Health Sciences and an alumnus of the Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Hausfeld is widely published in the medical literature, is the pioneer of innovative laser surgery techniques, is the author of a lay oriented medical book, and has appeared on numerous local and national television and radio shows as a medical expert. He has also served as a health care consultant, spokesperson, and executive coach for multi-national pharmaceutical companies, health care firms, as well as the U.S. military. Dr. Hausfeld recently stepped down from his clinical duties after receiving a Masters in Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University. He continued to refine his communication and team building talents by completing a graduate program in Leadership Coaching and Organizational Development at George Washington University. Dr. Hausfeld now manages a national debt collection firm as well as syndicating and raising capital for health care related real estate ventures, including other life science entrepreneurial enterprises, both regionally and nationally.
Steven B. Levine, MD is in private practice in Trumbull, CT. He graduated from the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry in 1981, completed residency in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania in 1986, and is Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at Yale University. He is a founding member of ATSS L.L.C., a software company with expertise in medical billing and compliance, and has served as Director of a northeast regional bank with focus on asset-based lending from 1995 to 2001. Currently, he is President and Chairman of the Connecticut Otolaryngology Purchasing Group and serves on the Executive Committees of the Connecticut ENT Society and Board of Governors of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery.
Edward G. Chekan, MD is a board-certified general surgeon with fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery. He completed his general surgery residency at Allegheny General Hospital in 1997, and then went on to Duke University for a two year fellowship in minimally invasive surgery. From Duke, he move to Charlottesville, VA for three years as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at The University of Virginia where he was very active in training of laparoscopic fellows, surgical residents and medical students. From UVA, he moved to Pittsburgh as a private practice surgeon. Early in 2007, he joined Ethicon Endo-Surgery in Cincinnati, OH. His primary responsibilities at EES include creating and delivering lectures on anatomy and procedures for an international sales force. He is active member within the product development process at EES and functions as a subject matter expert and scientific advisor. In addition to publishing several journal articles and book chapters on minimally invasive surgery, he has co-edited a textbook entitled The Atlas of Laparoscopic Surgery. He is a fellow of The American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a member of The Society of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), The American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (ASMBS) and The Southeastern Surgical Congress (SESC).
Manuel Pais Clemente is a Full Professor and Chairman Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the Porto University School of Medicine. He completed his Residency Training Program at the Boston University School of Medicine in Boston, USA and his PhD in Otorhinolaryngology at the Porto University School of Medicine, Portugal, with the Thesis on “CO2 Laser Microsurgery in Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis – Clinical and Experimental Study”. Along with other duties he is President Portuguese Institute of Tobacco Smoking Prevention, President of the World Voice Consortium, Assistant Secretary General of the Latin Societies of Otorhinolaryngology and Secretary General of the European Medical Association. Besides his current areas of research and practice in Otorhinolaryngology his main interests include predictive, preventive and personalized medicine, innovation technologies and health care policies including medical tourism. He has presented over 900 scientific papers, more than 300 published articles, he is member of 20 organizations and he has been awarded with numerous medals and honours.
Dr. Silay is an executive physician scientist and certified clinical research professional in the pharmaceutical industry with an Executive MBA degree from the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Silay has worked on projects with several pharmaceutical companies such as Astellas, Chiron, Fugisawa, Nabi Biopharmaceutical, Forest Pharmaceuticals, KV Pharmaceuticals, Medtronics, Deep Breeze, Teva, Ipsen as well as governmental organizations such as NIH, Chest foundation, American heart association grants and FDA. He completed his medical School at The University of Ankara in Turkey and his internship at Baylor College of Medicine and University of Texas in Houston, Texas. He attended a Physician Scientist Training Program at The MD Anderson Cancer Center of University of Texas and is a member of the American Academy of Neurology.
After finishing training in internal medicine and nephrology at Westchester Medical center, at New York Medical College, Dr. Rahim moved to Idaho in 2005 and started Idaho kidney institute. They are now the largest provider of care for patients suffering from kidney disease, dialysis and kidney transplant in southeastern Idaho. Affiliate faculty at Idaho State University (ISU), responsible for nephrology curriculum for physician’s assistant school and nursing school. In addition they provide clinical mentoring for family medicine resident from ISU family medicine residency program. Founder and owner of Idaho Kidney Institute in Idaho, one of the largest provider of care for patients suffering from kidney disease in south eastern Idaho. Fahim was just reappointed as Medicine Service line Chief at Portneuf Medical Center.
Founder and managing partner of Nephro Consultants, LLC, a healthcare consulting firm for medical practices and healthcare startups. Along with serving as director of Idaho Kidney Center in Pocatello, director of Idaho kidney center in Blackfoot, Fahim is also medical director for acute dialysis program for Pocatello Medical Partners overseeing three regional hospitals, Portneuf Medical Center, Bingham Memorial and Mountain view hospitals,. Fahim joined in 2004 as physician partners in Liberty Dialysis a JV physician and corporate startup that recently underwent acquisition by Fresenius care, making it one of the largest dialysis provider in the world.
