Las Vegas Chapter

The SoPE Las Vegas Chapter is the regional chapter for the non-profit global biomedical and healthcare innovation network SoPE. Membership is open to medical professionals and other stakeholders in healthcare. Members include doctors, nurses, dentists, healthcare entrepreneurs, investors, engineers, IT professionals, and industry representatives. SoPE is here to provide the network to encourage, educate, and connect biomedical and healthcare entrepreneurs so that new ideas get a chance – The Society operates in the very early stages of innovation commercialization; encouraging physicians and other medical professional entrepreneurs with ideas about how to improve healthcare to explore the possibilities and empowering them should they decide to take those initial steps in the “go to market” process. SoPE is unique in its make-up, leadership and mission – The Society is the only known organization founded and led by physicians with the specific purpose of providing support to those physicians and other medical professionals on the front lines of delivering healthcare that need help in bringing their ideas, inventions and innovations for improving healthcare to life.

SoPE Las Vegas is a hub of information, education, and networking for the region’s life science entrepreneurs. Through our meetings we provide education for entrepreneurs and early-stage investors and provide opportunities for them to connect to share and advance ideas. We value innovation, inclusiveness, and outcomes to further enhance Las Vegas’ role as a leading driver of life science venturing.

Executive Committe

Friends of Parkinson’s, a non-profit organization, established in October 2014 as a resource and advocacy center for the 30,000 individuals afflicted with Parkinson’s Disease in the Greater Las Vegas area, which included Pahrump, Henderson, and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jamillah Ali-Rahman started the organization to fill a void that existed in the Las Vegas area. Ms Ali-Rahman wanted to establish an organization focused on local day to day issues; one that would impact the quality of life of those afflicted with Parkinson’s disease or the issues encountered by their caregivers. This is the void that Friends of Parkinson’s stepped into.

Acting as a resource and advocacy center, Friends of Parkinson’s provides the Parkinson’s disease community with information regarding the latest medical treatments and breakthroughs, products, and services available to the Parkinson’s disease community. This information is disseminated through its network of support groups, social media, the Parkinsonian Newsletter, and a series of Medical Education seminars.

Friends of Parkinson’s also provides a social outlet for Parkinsonians and their caregivers by hosting several annual events. These include Meet and Greets, an annual Caregivers Christmas party, and its 5K/10K Funny Bunny Race. These events provide a social outlet that enable Parkinsonians and their caregivers to meet and support each other.

In short, Friends of Parkinson’s is helping improve the quality of life of those afflicted by Parkinson’s, and lighten the load of their caregivers.
