Members include doctors, nurses, dentists, healthcare entrepreneurs, investors, engineers, IT professionals, and industry representatives. SoPE is here in San Antonio to provide the network to encourage, educate, and connect biomedical and healthcare entrepreneurs so that new ideas get a chance—The Society operates in the very early stages of innovation commercialization; encouraging physicians and other medical professional entrepreneurs with ideas about how to improve healthcare to explore the possibilities and empowering them should they decide to take those initial steps in the ìgo to marketî process. SoPE is unique in its make-up, leadership and mission ñ The Society is the only known organization founded and led by physicians with the specific purpose of providing support to those physicians and other medical professionals on the front lines of delivering healthcare that need help in bringing their ideas, inventions and innovations for improving healthcare to life. Chapter Leader

Dr. Peoples is the co-founder Cancer Insight, LLC (CI). CI is a developing cancer vaccines and running clinical trials involving cancer immunotherapies. He graduated from the US Military Academy and earned his MD from Johns Hopkins. His surgical residencies at with Harvard Medical School and his surgical onocology fellowship was at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Peoples is the named inventor on a number of patents. His research focuses on the interaction between the immune system and cancer. Specifically, for the past 20 years, Dr. Peoples has been designing, developing, and testing cancer vaccines for their ability to specifically stimulate the host immune system to recognize and kill cancer cells. Currently, five of his vaccines, E75, GP2, E39/J65, and AE37 have been licensed out to industry partners. His vaccine development strategy hinges on three basic principles: 1) develop vaccines that can target large numbers of cancers and cancer patients, 2) utilize simplistic vaccine approach that can be exported to the community setting, and 3) test the vaccines in the preventive, not therapeutic, setting. The latter approach has distinguished our group from most others who have tried to use vaccines to treat established metastatic tumors without success. All of the trials have targeted cancer patients that have been completely treated by multi-modality therapy and rendered disease-free but who are at high risk for recurrence. These patients are then vaccinated during their disease-free interval while they have an intact immune system and try to prevent their recurrence. The first phase 2 trial of E75 demonstrated a 50% reduction in recurrences. The second and third phase 2 trials of GP2 and AE37 have corroborated these results. E75 has entered into a registration phase 3 trial seeking FDA approval. AE37 will be close behind. He is currently investigating our next generation vaccines, combinations of vaccines, and novel delivery approaches. Dr. Peoples serves in numerous academic and advisory positions. He is the author on over 100 articles. As an Army surgeon, he’s deployed multiple times and was the lead Army surgeon for the 274th Forward Surgical Team, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He retired with the rank of Colonel in 2014.
