SoPE’s South Carolina chapter launched its first meeting in Charleston, SC

SoPE’s South Carolina chapter launched its first meeting in Charleston, SC at the annual SC Bio Conference.  Over forty entreprenuers, clinicians, and industry leaders attended the meeting to learn about SoPE’s mission and to find out how they can get involved and how they can help the chapter grow.  During the meeting, the mission and ground rules of the SoPE organization were discussed. The mission of SoPE was complimentary to the mission of SC Bio. A presentation on “The Physician Entrepreneur” was given by Dr. Mark DeLegge which included multiple “pearls” for all clinicians to consider as they walk down the entrepreneur trail. The floor was then opened to discuss how the SC chapter will be utilized to foster an environment that promotes collaboration between physicians, entrepreneurs, bio-engineers, and industry leaders.  There was a lot of excitement from the bioengineering departments at Clemson University and University of South Carolina as well as the technology transfer departments and physicians from the Greenville Hospital System and the Medical University of South Carolina. Immediate plans were for a SoPE meeting in February of 2016, the development of a board of advisors and the creation of a linked-in page which will be tied to the greater SoPE organization.
